With so many types of snoring ear plugs available it can be very confusing knowing which to choose. Here are a few tips.
- Wax earplugs. These are quite effective at blocking snoring and other nocturnal disturbances. Unfortunately they often accumulate dirt and hair and because they are sticky they get stuck to sheets and pillows. They can become unhygienic and discoloured after a few uses.
- Molded ear plugs. These are ideal for sleeping. Zenplugs Molded Sleeping Ear Plugs don't protrude from your ears so are super-comfortable even when lying on your side in bed. They are even antibacterial so help stop you getting ear infections from repeated and prolonged ear plug use.
- Foam. These ear plugs are effective at blocking snoring and noise at night such as your neighbours having a party. Unfortunately they are not comfortable at all after wearing them for an hour or so. This is because they expand in the ear canals, exerting pressure on the thin skin which lines them. Because they expand they push themselves out, exposing you to the noise you were trying to block.
- Blu-tac. Some people use Blu-tac as ear plugs. This is not recommended as it tends to come apart in the ears, leaving bits behind.
