 Swimmer's Ear Infection

Swimmer's Ear Infection

Swimmer's ear is a common infection of the outer ear and ear canal in people who swim regularly or for prolonged periods of time.  Susceptible individuals may develop the condition after just a time or two in the water.

Factors which increase the chance of the condition include;

  • Warm water.  Tropical seas are laden with bacteria which can cause the condition.  Ear plugs can help here; ZenPlugs are even antibacterial, killing the germs which cause ear infections.  They are molded individually to your ears so are super-comfortable and amazingly effective at keeping water out of your ears.
  • Irritants.  Chlorine, soaps and perfumes can all irritate and inflame the skin, making it more prone to becoming infected.  Again ear plugs will help here by protecting your ears.
  • Ear conditions.  People with ear conditions such as eczema and psoriasis are more prone to ear infections due to the damage these conditions cause to the skin.

Prevention is better than cure!

Regular use of ear plugs for swimming will prevent the condition in many cases. ZenPlugs are individually molded to your ears so are highly comfortable. As well as this they are effective at keeping water and irritants out of your ears.  They are also brightly coloured and can be connected on a cord so you don't lose them.

If you have a skin condition in your ears visit your doctor.  They may want to prescribe a treatment which will get it under control.  This will help prevent swimmer's ear.
