Deciding which ear plugs to buy can be hard work. With so many varieties it's hard to see the wood for the trees and separate the wheat from the chaff.
Wax - sticky and unpleasant but effective at keeping water and sound out. Only last a few uses before needing replacement. Can't be connected on a cord so you are more likely to lose them if one falls out.
Soft silicon - also sticky; quickly become clogged with hair and dirt. Expensive if used over a prolonged time as need frequent replacement.
Molded ear plugs - comfortable and effective at blocking sound and water from the ears. Come in various colours and some are even antibacterial. May be joined with a lanyard, stopping you losing them if one falls out. Comfortable and effective, last for years so the cost-per-use is much lower than other types of ear plugs.
Foam - push themselves out of your ears as they expand, falling out and exposing you to the noise you are trying to block. Unhygienic with repeated use, not suitable for use in water.
Treat yourself to a decent pair of molded ear plugs and enjoy peace for years to come.
